Wish List: Birthday Edition

7 Nov 2016

UK plus size fashion blogger AmandaApparel shares her top beauty products, clothing, and home goods in this wish list post featuring items from Navabi, Oliver Bonas, Colourpop, Elvi and more.

It's nearly my birthday, you guys! On the 16th I'll be 27 years old. I used to love birthdays when I was younger, but around the time I turned 18 I started dreading them. These days I don't dread them, but I still have an odd relationship with them. I thought a wee birthday list might make it a bit more fun. I know this post is completely self indulgent, but that's what birthdays are all about, haha! So here you have it: my favourite home goods, beauty products, and clothing that I'd be THRILLED to receive as birthday gifts!

**1. Urban Outfitters Marble Sheets

A couple years ago I found a BEAUTIFUL set of marble bed sheets, but those were $200. I'm sure some people wouldn't think twice about spending that much on bedding, but there was no way I could justify spending that much. After waiting a few years and marble becoming SUPER popular,  I found these sheets at Urban Outfitters!

2. Russell Hobbs Illuminating Kettle

Geez, how boring do I have to be to want a kettle for my birthday?! Lol! I keep seeing these glass kettles that illuminate and there's just something about them! How cool would it be if you could customise the illuminating colour? Sure, blue is nice, but what about pink or purple?

3. Brand Famous | 4. Leave Your Mark

I'm really excited that I've gotten back into reading lately. In the past I was pretty strictly a fiction girl, but recently I've been enjoying reading nonfiction, especially about gender politics, careers, or branding. These two have been on my radar since I've seen friends reading them on Instagram. I'd love to get my hands on them!

5. Peg Board

Now that I finally got my hands on a cinematic light box, I'd love to have one of these bad boys. Since the letters are smaller on the peg board you can fit more words on it. I'd love to use it in the kitchen as a weekly menu. I'm turning 27, so I'd like to get a bit more organised with my cooking and eating habits. Maybe something fun and aesthetic like this could help get my butt in gear.

6. Oliver Bonas Nesting Tables

I know, I know, more  marble! But come on, who could resist these beauties! I know they're nesting tables, but I'd love to separate them and have one on each side of my couch. Plus, you and I both know I'd end up using them as props in Instagram photos, haha!

7. Skinny Dip Headphones

Several years ago my parents gifted me a gorgeous pink set of Marc by Marc Jacobs headphones. But now, those are on their death bed. These Skinny Dip beauties are so pretty! I prefer over ear headphones so they don't interfere with my tragus piercing. I had an ear bud catch on the piercing once and OH MY GOSH did that hurt when I went to try and pull it out. I love how thin the band is that goes over your head. That means it's less likely to interfere with my hairstyle.

8. Diamond Glasses

These are SO PRETTY! I mean, they seem a bit impractical, but who cares? I always believe in fashion before function anyway. These come in a set of 2, but I'd prefer 4 so I could use them when friends are around. I'm worried that I'd accidentally one of the glasses down too quickly or incorrectly and end up breaking the glass, but that's a risk I'd be willing to take!

1. Huda Beauty Rose Gold Palette

This palette looks absolutely LUSH! It seems to be really popular in the Instagram community and I'd love to add it to my collection. I'm particularly interested in the top row of metallic/sparkly  shades. They look so multi-dimensional and gorgeous! From what I've seen they blend very well.

2. Anastasia Beverley Hills Modern Renaissance Palette

This is another palette I spotted on Instagram. I'd love to try out the deep pink shades especially. The colour is super pigmented and I love the matte finish. I've never used any orange shades like the ones in this palette, but it would be fun to experiment with them!

3. NYX Beauty Advent Calendar

I know that NYX is vastly popular, but for me their products are pretty hit or miss. I'm a big fan of their base products, like foundation, powder, setting spray, brow pencils, etc., but I've not had a lot of luck with their eyeshadows or lipsticks. A beauty advent calendar would be a fun way to experiment, and any unused or unwanted products could be sold or swapped on my depop

4. Dior Poison Girl

I work next to a large Boots store, so I'll often try out new scents before I start my shift. This has been my latest favourtie. I'm not a big fan of the other Dior Poison scents, but this one is just right for me. The packaging is super cute as well!

5. Colourpop Can You Knot Set6. Colourpop Out And About

I don't know about you, but I'm a BIG fan of Colourpop. Their ultramatte lippies are my choice favourite. The liquid to matte formula goes on so smoothly and has major staying power. Also, spoiler alert: they're made in the same lab as Kylie's lip kits...and rumour has it their formula is veeeeeery similar!

**7. Pixi Glow Tonic

The Pixi glow tonic is SUCH a cult favourite, and although I'm a bit skeptical I've been really keen to give it a try! LOADS of bloggers swear by it. Since going off of my birth control, hormones have made my face and neck a breakout disaster zone. I'm willing to give anything a go, and if this works for so many others, I may as well give it a shot!

1. Persona by Marina Rinaldi dress at Navabi

THIS. DRESS. IS. SO. STUNNING. Like, Have you ever seen a garment that took your breath away? This dress had that affect on me. There's nothing about this dress that I don't love. The colours and floral pattern are perfect. The cinched waist and pussy bow details are perfect. The sleeves and length of the dress are perfect. Like, I can't say enough nice things about this dress! Are you getting emotional? I'm getting emotional, haha!

2. Next metallic loafers

I feel like I'm in an accessory rut at the moment. I wear the same 2 pairs of boots all the time, but I'd like to change that. These metallic loafers would be a great change! The heel is a height that I could likely manage at work. I'd like to use my upcoming birthday as an opportunity to change and mature my style a bit. These feel like proper grown up shoes!

3. River Island Plus Dress (no longer available)

River Island have been KILLING it with their plus range. I'm thrilled that they've extended their sizing to a size 28 from 24, and I hope they continue to extend to size 32. This is a very ME dress. I'd love to wear it with over the knee boots and my tan jacket.

4. Fossil Tote bag

Do you have like, a massive collection of tote bags? I certainly do. I have at least a dozen canvas totes, as well as many more pleather totes. Instead of spending small amounts on loads of cheap bags, I'd rather spend more on a proper bag that's going to last me a long time. Usually I'd opt for a black tote, but this oxblood tote is perfect.

5. M&S Suede block heels

I'm glad I finally realised that M&S isn't just for wealthy older folks, haha! They've been crushing it with clothing and accessories as well. It's a shame their clothes only go up to size 22 and I'm a size 24, but I can still fit into (most of) their shoes and accessories! I have an older pair of similar heels that are an open-toe style. I'd like a closed toe pair like these for autumn/winter.

6. Curvy Kate Luxe Strapless Bra

I've never had a strapless bra that actually work, but large chested blogger babes swear by this Curvy Kate bra. With the holiday and party season coming up, I'd love to have a strapless bra in my lingerie wardrobe so I can wear more styles without showing off those bra straps. I usually wear a 40GG, but this bra only goes up to a 38, so I'd size down in the back and up in the cups to a 38HH, and that should do the trick!

7. New Look Curves Blouse

Since rebranding their plus range from Inspire to Curves, New Look have really stepped up their game. The colours and patterns have been much more on-trend. I've had my eye on this top for a while. I love how the animal print looks like lipstick prints! That's very much My Brand™

8. Elvi Pleated Skirt

This Elvi skirt is just 100% luxury! I love the colour and the pleats. I'd actually style this exactly as shown, with a black turtleneck and heels. Maybe even those M&S suede heels! I'd probably add a chunky statement necklace though! And of course my favourite Fossil Watch!

**Edit: Since originally drafting this post, my mum and granddad have gifted me the Urban Outfitters marble sheets and the Pixi Glow Tonic! Yay birthdays!
