UK plus size fashion blogger AmandaApparel shares her Glasgow experience in this woman about town post in collaboration with citizenM Hotel.
When I was asked to review citizenM Hotel in Glasgow I couldn’t have been more excited! I’ve never had a travel/hotel review opportunity before, so now I feel like a real blogger haha! If you follow me on Instagram you’ve already seen a few photos of my experience in the hotel, and now you get to see more! Yay!
Everything about citizenM seems so young and fresh, I was impressed from the moment I walked in. We (Bear and I) were greeted by a friendly face and were directed to the super speedy check in. After entering a couple details we got to choose from a couple different floors and whether we wanted the front or back of the building, then we got to program our own keys! I know that may not sound super exciting, but a) it’s great for someone with major anxiety issues and b) I just felt like a total boss which was fun!
Upon entering the room, I was greeted by name by an iPad on the nightstand! How cool is that? citizenM are all about the little details that make the hotel experience more personalised and enjoyable. The iPad controlled everything in the room, including blackout curtain, blinds, TV, radio, alarm clock, lights, and mood lights. Y’all, I need mood lights in my flat. I felt SO LUXURY. Obviously I went for a pink/purple vibe, but Bear was more into the shades of blue.
The whole hotel is covered in little slogans, like on the photos below. “citizenM says: ___________.” The rug inside the door read “citizenM says: Nice shoes!” That sort of thing. I thought it was charming and clever branding. Before staying I read a review that…well…let’s just say they weren’t a fan of it, haha! To each their own, but I personally enjoyed it.
In the reviews I read prior to my stay, the only other two complaints were about rooms being small, and breakfast being unimpressive. The rooms are on the small side, but (I assume) that’s how citizenM can offer such a unique, and personal experience for such a low price. Bear and I are both large humans, and we were super comfortable in the space. The room includes an XL king size bed, desk & chair, nightstand, chair, sink counter with storage, small shelf and cupboard, toilet, and rain shower. Even with all of this furniture, it didn’t feel cramped at all. It just felt like extremely well utilised space.
And to the reviewer who said the breakfast is crap…what are you smoking?! Breakfast was SO nice! Loads of things were included, and there were a handful of things you could add on for a small fee. TBH I was just pumped to have a couple Babybel with breakfast, haha! Real talk though, breakfast included SO many options. Cereals, yoghurt, fruits, OJ, apple juice, all the fry-up fixings, waffles, and several breads for toasting. My americano was not very good, But Bear’s latte was just fine, so I’m assuming mine was just a one-off issue.
I’d like to extend a HUGE thank you to Alexa for this collaboration with citizenM. Thanks so much for making my birthday extra special this year!
